HOW TO PLAY

Before I get to the rules, let me explain the purpose of the game.

You take on the role of a kicker for an american football team. The goal of this game is to win enough games for your team to qualify for the playoffs. Once you qualify, all focus is set on winning the league championship. Simple enough?

How do you win a game? Each game you are given a math question. Answer the question correctly in the given amount of time to win that game for that particular week. Each math question is a kick. Answer correctly and the kick is ‘good’. If your answer is incorrect, the kick will be ‘no good’. If you run out of time, the kick will be blocked.  That doesn’t sound to hard, right?

SELECT A LEAGUE

After the title screen, ‘Select a League’ will be first screen that is displayed.

On this screen you are presented with six choices.

WORLD

NATIONAL

STATE

CITY

BACKYARD

PEE WEE

Each league represents a difficultly level. This game was designed for all ages!

The Pee Wee league is great for younger kids just starting math, or those who need a math skill refresher course. The World league is impossible. I really challenge you to try to win the World Championship without cheating.

Try the Pee Wee League, then move your way up as you advance. This game could possibly help you with your math skills.

FOOTBALL FIELD

Once you select an approbate league, you are taken to the football field. This is were all the action takes place.

Noticed in the top left hand of the screen it shows two rows called ‘Wins’ and ‘Loses’. This is where you can keep track of your wins and loses during the season. The top center of the screen shows the current week and below that information, you’ll see a white bar. This is known as the  ‘Clock Bar’. When you given a math question you must answer it before the bar is full. What’s great about this game is, you never know how much time you have. You’ll either have 8, 10, or 12 seconds to answer the question, but you’ll never know. I believe that adds to the ‘Under Pressure’ element.

Finally, the current league is displayed right below the clock bar.

You’ll notice a black box which displays “Score Board”. This box is where the math questions appear during the season. Say you draw 2 +  2. This box is where the question will be displayed.

Right below that, you’ll see a white box that reads, ‘Type answer here’. I think we all know what that means. Once you get a question, immediately touch the white box. This will bring up a number pad which allows you to type in your answer.

HOW TO PLAY

The Next Week button will advance you to the next week in the season. Once you select your league, touch the next week button.

Once you do, you’ll notice the score board will change to a math question, and the Next Week button will change to the Answer button.

Once the question is displayed, touch the white box to bring up the number pad. Use the number pad to type in your answer, and hit the answer button before the ‘Clock Bar’ fills. If the Clock Bar fills, the kick is blocked. If you enter in the answer before the Clock Bar fills and hit the answer button, then the kick is up in the air. If you correctly answer the math question, then your kick is good, and you win the game for that week. If you were incorrect, the kick is ‘no good’, and you lose the game for that week. If you lose, you will be shown the correct answer.

Once the question is complete, the Next Week button will return. Touch this button to advance to the next week in the season.

T Button

When you are answering a question, you will notice a button called ‘T”. This is your ‘Time Out’ button. If you select this button, you will be given an additional 20 seconds to answer the math question.

You only have ONE time out each season and you cannot use your time out during the Championship game. Use it wisely.

SEASON AND PLAYOFFS

The whole point of the season is to qualify for the playoffs. There are 17 weeks in the season. You are given a bye week at some point during the season.

The playoffs consists of 5 rounds:

1st Round

2nd Round

Quarter Finals

Semi-Finals

The Championship Game

If you lose in one of the rounds you are eliminated from the tournament.

If you win 8 games you will have a small chance of qualifying for the playoffs.

If you win 9 games, you’ll have a better chance to qualify, however there is still a chance you will not.

If you win 10 or more games, you a guaranteed a playoff spot.

If you will 11 you a guaranteed a playoff spot, and you have a slight chance of winning your division. Winning your division will grant you a bye in Round 1 of the playoffs.

If you win 12 of more games you win your division, and are granted a bye in the 1st Round of the playoffs.

WINNING THE CHAMPIONSHIP

If you happen get through all the rounds of the playoffs, and win the Championship game, you are declared the champion of the league. You will be asked for your name, to go on the Championship certificate.

On the Championship certificate screen, you will have the option to save the Championship Certificate as a screen shot. To do this, touch the screen shot button. The screen shot will be saved to your Photos. There is also another button called “Review”. If you touch that button, you will be taken to the screen that will show you your season review. It shows each week, the questions you were given, and if you won or lost that week. To take a screen shot of this screen, touch the screen shot button. The screen shot will be saved to your Photos. Hit the back button to go back to the certificate.

Once your done on this screen, touch the ‘End Season’ button to be brought back to the League selection screen.

TIPS

1. Start with a lower league and work your way up. The upper leagues are pretty tough.

2. The second a math question appears, get into the habit of touching the answer box, so the keypad is ready. It doesn’t come up by default to put more pressure on you

3. Use your Time Out wisely. Once it’s used it’s gone for the season.

4. Make sure that you do use your time out when you have to. For instance:

If your 7-8, and your struggling on a question, use it! If you don’t and miss the question, you can’t make the playoffs at 7-9. However, if you use it, and get the question right, then you’ll have a small chance of making the playoffs at 8-8.

5. If you have more then 9 loses, you can’t make the playoffs, but don’t stop! Even if you’re 2-9, make sure you finish your final 5 questions. It’s great practice.
